Maxwell C. Shrike, birth name Mackenzie "Max" Church, is the protagonist of Red Vs. Red, Blue Vs. Blue. He is the younger twin brother of Agent Carolina. Prior to the beginning of the story, he was once a member of Project Freelancer, assuming the name of Agent California.

Following his discovery of a file that could potentially bring Project Freelancer's true motives to light, the Director attempted to assassinate him. He survived the attempt and was saved by Connie.

Overview

The younger brother of Carolina, he lost his mother at a young age. When Dr. Leonard Church began Project Freelancer, one of the UNSC's attempts to create the "magic bullet" to win the war, he joined alongside his sister. Unlike Carolina, he was ranked in the low twenties of the Leaderboard, but didn't care much for it. Overtime, he began to develop a small crush on South Dakota. However, overtime, he began to doubt Project Freelancer before he discovered a mysterious file. Since his attempted assassination, he has grown distrustful of Project Freelancer

In his time with the Reds and Blues, he has become more livelier and somewhat more comedic. Despite the Reds being his enemies, he is on rather friendly terms with Sarge. He considers them to be like a family, and even goes so far as to defend them when Carolina threatens them to try and get them to cooperate.

Trivia

• Max's armor as a sim trooper is, oddly, a FOTUS MJOLNER Powered Assault Armor variant. It was also his armor of choice when he briefly helped Chiron Industries.
